I am very excited to announce that my first triathlon was a complete success! Heather and I pulled off our very first sprint triathlon in 1:31:38. Out of 398 women we ended up in the 135th and 136th slot which is not too bad for our first time. I successfully rebounded from my bad swim experience last weekend. In fact, a girl tried to wrestle me around the first buoy but I held my line and didn't let it affect my performance. On the bike I found myself very calm, collected and positive. I took advantage of the downhills cranking my gears and making sure I didn't hit any dead spots in my spinning cadence. I had a smile from ear to ear as I headed toward Tempe Beach Park. A spectator called out as I passed, "That's a great aerodynamic smile!" Spectators like that make participating in athletic events fun. I leaned into the final turn with my smile in tow rounding out the first lap. I took pleasure in screaming out "on your left" as I started my second lap and began to pass the slower group that were beginning their first lap. As I rounded the final turn of my last bike lap I heard the cheers of my dad and stepmom. Their presence and support resulted in an immediate sense of pride which boosted me through the bike-to-run transition. As we ran onto the Mill Ave. bridge the realization that our first triathlon was minutes from being over began to set in. I looked at Heather and said "This is mom's bridge." (It has only been four months since Heather and I ran along side my mother on that very same bridge as she finished her first half marathon in January.) Heather followed up my remark with, "your mom's going to take us home." And with that said we both ran towards the finish line with huge smiles.
Saturday night I headed out to a housewarming party with Bri for a bit. Later in the evening it was time to shift gears and celebrate my tri finish with more friends. I must admit before going further that quite frequently the girls enjoy teasing me about the age of past boyfriends. Well, let me just say that some things never change...I think there must have been a sign on my head that said if you are 30 or over don't waste your time. The night ended shortly after a 22 year old hit on me, it was just too much! The girls thought it was time for a rebound but I am not one to kiss and tell. Ha, ha, ha!
My excitement about completing the tri was eclipsed tonight by the Suns hard fought (and I do not use the term lightly~Horry's ridiculous foul in the 4th quarter) rebound back into the series with a much needed win in San Antonio. I concur with D'Antoni's end of game remarks which conveyed to the media that he wanted to enjoy the win before contemplating the possible ramifications of Amare and Boris jumping off the bench. Thank goodness for rebounds they remind us to have faith and confidence that good things can and will happen ;-)
Nothing is more rewarding than inspiring others to reach goals they never thought possible.
