A Tribute to My Uncle Gene

A couple of years ago Bud Light came out with an add campaign called "Real Men of Genius". One day while listening to a local radio station I heard one of these adds aimed at "Mr. Jean Shorts Inventor". The lyrics were hilarious and they tapped into a family joke that has transcended time and several pairs of jeans at my uncle Gene's expense, literally. As most of you know, the AZ heat is horrendous during the summer and most of us, if we had the body, confidence, or both would venture out of our homes in nearly nothing. If in fact, we are required to leave the house during the triple digit heat. My uncle has physically taken this matter into his own hands with a pair of scissors and old blue jeans for decades now. I don't recall if any of those decades considered this to be a fashion trend for males... I do recall Madonna wearing a pair in her "Desperately Seeking Susan" flick but I digress. The fact that my uncle makes his own shorts out of jeans he cuts into shorts is not truly the issue per say, it is the length that causes us grief for the most part. Now, Daisy Dukes were cool for Daisy but for a tall, lanky, white male who resembles Nicolas Cage a la "Raising Arizona" but aged a bit? Not so much. His unfashionable attire is not so easy on the eyes ;-) For years my poor aunt Elise has been ferreting out these hideous shorts (aka jorts) and sending them to jorts heaven here in the AZ landfills. However, every year with a vengeance Gene creates new jorts. And almost in a silent middle finger to the face, the inseam of said jorts tend to creep up a little bit higher than years past. We are basically waiting for a cop to cite him with indecent exposure during a cigarette run. I hope I have given you a clear picture of how and why Gene is the butt of our family jokes. We love him all the more for his jorts! In fact, on my birthday as a tribute to our uncle and in celebration of a festive occasion Kevin sent me a subtle reminder of why I am proud to be a Sanders...Play the link and look at the picture in honor of my family's Real Man of Genius
